These Were the Best Dressed Celebrities At The 2022 Met Gala
Jul 14, 2022 By Harry Evans

This year's Met Gala needs months of planning and preparation from everyone involved. The Met Gala 2022 will take an entire community to bring one person's vision to life, from one handcrafted piece to elaborate gowns that take numerous hours to make.

What's the payoff for all that effort? You'll rub shoulders with the biggest stars in fashion, take home photos you'll cherish forever, have a make-or-break red carpet moment, and perhaps make Vanity Fair's best-dressed list at the Met Gala.

Billie Eilish

The biggest night in fashion has arrived, and the Met Gala 2022 wouldn't be the same without Billie Eilish. Since her meteoric rise to popularity, she has established herself as a fashion icon, and her appearance during this year's Met Gala proves no different.

May 2 marked the first time we've seen Eilish in a skintight gown on a red carpet this year, and it was a refreshing change of pace for the singer. As for her top, she was decked up in an ornate purple flower-adorned mint green boned corset.

With a cream satin bustled skirt and green lace sleeve (complete with thumb holes), it had the "Gilded Glamour" flair we were searching for, while the ribbon choker gave it an almost modern e-girl touch."

It was fashioned by Gucci, with whom Eilish frequently collaborates, and all of the textiles were repurposed, making for a stylish yet environmentally friendly costume. Far as beauty is concerned, she opted for a more natural look, with just a brush of eyeliner and a '70s-style updo that showcased her stunning bangs.

Kim Kardashian

It was finally here: the moment we'd all been anticipating for months: Kim Kardashian wowed the crowd at the 2022 Met Gala in a classic Jean Louis 'bare' dress that Marilyn Monroe wore back in the day. Her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson, was naturally by her side.

Adding a bleach blonde haircut slicked back, diamond studs, and a white fur coat to the classic ensemble, Kardashian updated the look for the 21st century. But she kept things simple, allowing the garment to take center stage.

Monroe wore a Jean Louis vintage outfit during her famous performance for JFK's birthday in 1962. In 2016, it was sold at auction for $4.8 million, according to The Sun. By giving out carbs and sugars for three weeks and exercising three times a week, Kim could slim down enough to fit into the dress for the occasion.

It was revealed after the Met Gala that TMZ had broadcast a video of Kim Kardashian at her last dress fitting. The celebrity and the Ripley's Believe It or Not team employed an ingenious way to secure the gown's bodice closures.

Blake Lively

The 2022 Met Gala co-chair and fashion icon Blake Lively has just arrived on the red carpet. Her interpretation of "gilded splendor" will leave you speechless. With her Versace opera gloves, Lively sported a copper-colored strapless gown.

The massive train of the gown featured Art Deco-inspired metallic beading and was fastened with a bow. The actor wore a little tiara and diamond drop earrings to complete the look. With her spouse and co-host Ryan Reynolds, she climbed the Met's steps in a Versace tuxedo.

But wait, there's more. The founder of Betty Buzz untied the bow of her train, revealing a turquoise cloth below, as she walked the steps. Do you see what I mean? It looks like the Statue of Liberty, which turns green as copper oxidizes.

Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes made a triumphant comeback to the Met Gala red carpet on Monday (May 2), donning a look straight out of the Gilded Age.

He wore a crimson and navy Tommy Hilfiger coat with his initials sewn on the inner lining as he made his way down the carpet. He eventually took off the coat to show a navy suit, finishing with a sweater and nail polish in the same shade.

A "Gilded Glamour" theme inspired by the turn of the century Gilded Age in American history has been chosen as this year's co-chairs, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Regina King, Blake Lively, and Ryan Reynolds. Famous people nowadays are encouraged to reinterpret late 19th-century fashion in new ways.

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo channeled her ethereal beauty in a shimmering lavender Versace gown as she arrived at the Met Gala 2022 on Monday (May 2). Lilac mesh gloves, loose waves in the hair held in place by butterfly clips, and a Smokey eye completed the outfit.

the gilded age," the Grammy winner told Vogue's Livestream host Vanessa Hudgens, "the splendor inspired us." When Hudgens inquired about the release date of Rodrigo's follow-up to Sour, he said, "I'm currently working on it." Every time I write, I want to double-check that everything is correct. "I'm looking forward to a new age."

Janelle Monae

At the Met Gala in New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, Janelle Monae made a radiant appearance on the red carpet.

The multi-platinum recording artist posed for photographers in a Ralph Lauren gown with a round train that sparkled in the dark. Monae wore a backless dress with a built-in headdress adorned with silver crystals wrapped around her head. Her look was completed by two enormous matching cuff bracelets, a solid red lip, and a matching glittery manicure.

For the "Pynk" singer, her style is a tribute to her parents' working-class uniforms—her mother worked in the housekeeping department, while her daddy was a truck driver—and to classic elegance.

Janelle Monáe's gilded beauty for the future was a stunning contrast to the old-fashioned dress code of the event. The Grammy-nominated singer opted for a sleeveless gown with beading and a unique headpiece designed by Ralph Lauren for the occasion.

Phoebe Bridgers

Jonathan Simkhai designed the crystal-embroidered outfit worn by the "Punisher" singer on the red carpet. The halter-style neckline and sheer floor-length skirt of the dress were also standout features. Diamond earrings, a bracelet, and a big ring completed her look.

She donned a pair of metallic heels disguised by her long dress. Paul Mescal, Bridgers' reported fiancé and boyfriend, walked the singer down the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. Valentino provided him with an all-black ensemble. He added a floral corsage and a silver ring to give the monotone appearance a little something more.

Bridgers and Mescal photographed with Mescal's Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones, even though they didn't come together. Slicked-back hair and sparkling jewelry completed the look for Bridgers at the awards show. It was Edgar-turn Jones's to stand out from the rest of the crowd with his swishy, exaggerated fringe appearance.

The engagement rumors surrounding Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal make them a high-profile couple right now. Bridgers alluded to Mescal as her "fiancé" while still at Coachella two weekends ago, although the couple has not verified (or denied) the revelation. It's well-known that couples who appear on the Met Gala's red carpet are more likely to stay together.

Alicia Keys

On the Met Gala red carpet, Alicia Keys sang a song in honor of her adopted city of New York.

While walking the red carpet with hubby Swizz Beatz, the actress donned a shimmering Ralph Lauren gown to pay homage to the city's neon lights. A cape embroidered with the New York City skyline completed the appearance.

When I think of our city, I'm inspired. New York City will always be a part of my life; Keys said on the red carpet for Vogue's live host La La Anthony. "All we wanted was for New York to be represented at the gala."

"I'm in love with it." Another New York anthem, City of Gods, is the subject of my latest song. As if you were in New York City. It's an honor to represent my hometown. I'm in love with New York. As a team, we've shown incredible tenacity and perseverance."

Odell Beckham

Odell Beckham Jr., the New York Giants Super Bowl champion, rarely misses a huge fashion moment. During the Met Gala in 2022, the wide receiver's velvet hooded suit caught the eye of the world wide web.

Aside from his Flea Market Cactus Plant costume, OBJ's iced-out drip on his nighttime clothing had onlookers scratching their heads. He also wore a thick chain by Gabriel the Jeweler, the man behind some of OBJ's greatest and most iconic pieces, on top of his Chrome Hearts gear.

"300 carats of raw diamonds, 200 carats of gemstone diamonds, and 2.5 kilograms of gold," said Gabriel of the massive chain. Using his Instagram stories, Gabriel stated that the necklaces are worth USD 65,000 and then joked that the clasp lock could be worth more than the chain because of its intricacy.

OBJ continues to do tricks in front of the crowd, flaunting his ice-cold ensembles for the biggest night out in fashion. His "Gilded Glamor" outfit for the Met Gala is shown in the gallery below.

Jacob Elordi

The MET Gala 2022 has been ruled by the stunning gowns worn by the women in attendance, but don't be fooled: men will also be in attendance. Jacob Elordi, a Brisbane-born actor, wore a specially made Burberry suit to the event.

Add sparkle to your formal attire with a black hand chain mailed on his tailored English-fit black suit from the iconic British brand. The design features a knight holding a standard, which is a Burberry trademark. With a plain black slim silk tie, he's dressed in a white cotton poplin shirt.

David Yurman, a New York-based contemporary jewelry designer, provided some of his silver and ring pieces.

You may recognize Jacob from his roles in the Netflix sensations The Kissing Booth and Swinging Safari, as well as the critically acclaimed HBO drama Euphoria.

Amy Komorowski, the celebrity stylist who designed his look, gave us an interview. she would want the hair to look polished but flawless, with just the right amount of volume and texture for Jacob's MET Gala look this year."

Hailey Bieber

Another noteworthy red-carpet event for Hailey Bieber was her appearance at the 2022 Met Gala in a Yves Saint Laurent gown with an embellished feather-trimmed cape.

In keeping with the gala's "Gilded Glamour" theme, the model opted for a white silk gown with feathers and black tights. Her signature golden donut skin and sleek bun completed the look.

Justin Bieber is attending his eighth Met Gala. Last year, the model and singer Justin Bieber made their red carpet debut in matching black ensembles for the event. The supermodel chose a plunging Saint Laurent gown and black sunglasses for the 2021 "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" theme.

Quannah Chasinghorse

Last year, Quannah Chasinghorse spoke up about how lonely she felt at the Met Gala, and she said she felt more accepted at the 2022 event. A Prabal Gurung gown in an aquamarine tulle was worn by the Indigenous model, environmental activist, and land defender at the Met Gala on Monday night's "gilded glamour" theme.

Reuters caught up with the Hän Gwich'in and Oglala Lakota 19-year-old as she walked the red carpet to discover how her second time at fashion's biggest night was different from her first time. As Chasinghorse said, "I came here this year more prepared." Before the interviewer asked if she felt more welcome this time, she said, "It was a little lonely last year."

Dove Cameron

Dove Cameron donned an otherworldly take on golden splendor to mark her Met Gala debut. An Iris van Herpen skeleton gown and accessories by Brilliant Earth, Marli and the Residency, Le Silla heels, and a Roger Vivier handbag were the actress's choices for the biggest night in fashion.

"I think that Iris and I wanted to bring that same aim into today and also have a modern and contemporary take on the Gilded Age," Cameron said of the Gilded Age's emphasis on "using latest tech and textiles to achieve big fashion, grand design," which "no one had ever seen before."

According to her, "excess and innovative cutting-edge exploratory design" is at the heart of the topic. It's a celebration of fashion's extremes, with pictures and shapes that appear out of this world compared to their actual size.

I believe the aesthetic Iris and I came up with does just that." While the gown was beautiful on its whole, Cameron noted her favorite element was "the clavicle running up to the neck. It looks like a spine to me, and I'm in awe of the level of intricacy and complexity. Seeing it for the first time made me feel feminine, magnificent, and much more like myself," she says.
